Maths

Maths is one of the most important subjects in a child’s development. Maths helps us think analytically and have better reasoning abilities. Basic mathematics skills are needed in everyday life, and here at the Tuition Club we make sure that our students succeed in gaining those vital skills. We not only include elements of the National Curriculum, but we also integrate problem solving and mental maths activities into our lessons; enabling students to develop their skills whilst also having fun. Excellent knowledge of maths will open many avenues for children, so come and find out how we can support your child in this important subject!

Key Stage 1 & 2 Syllabus

In order for our students to receive the best support for maths, we only use the best resources that have been rated highly by teachers across the country. For key stages 1 and 2 we use the Evan Moor series as our framework. This series has been designed by Evan Moor to provide a firm foundation in core maths skills.

Also, the bestselling Evan Moor series are used as a planning guide by our teachers, whilst students complete worksheets from the Basic Maths Skills books in class. The practice books enable students to implement what they learn.  Additional books are also used during our maths lessons for key skills practice, which enables students to develop their problem solving, mental arithmetic and non-verbal reasoning skills. We aim to give children the best tutoring possible, which include elements of the national curriculum; as well as other skill building work and syllabus which are effective for children. As we have an active community of home schoolers we aim to facilitate their education using the most effective tools and resources found.

For key stage 3 we follow the brand new MyMaths for KS3 course, which consists of differentiated and levelled student books, workbooks and homework books; all covering the new national curriculum. Students are able to develop their core maths skills through an abundance of practice, as well as develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills. The philosophy of MyMaths is to ‘learn it once and learn it well’, and through coherent progression this will lead to secure and grounded knowledge. Through our support and excellent resources students will build a strong foundation in  KS3 maths, which will prepare them well for further studies in this subject. At the Tuition Club we aim to support home schooling parents in implementing the Two Year Key Stage 3 Project, which gives students the option to complete the three year syllabus over a two year period. However, the implementation of this two year scheme of work is dependant on a child’s ability.
