Notice for Parents – The Tuition Club and COVID-19

The Club will be on Monday as normal inshaaAllah, however there are some important things to note with regards to precautions being taken to ensure the best possible response in line with government guidelines.

Keeping Children at Home

In accordance with the current guidelines then we ask parents to check if their child has a continuous and persistent cough or high temperature; or experiencing any other symptoms. If so then please keep your child at home – JazaakumAllaahukhair – and please contact us and let us know.

We love and care for every child who attends and don’t want any to fall behind. Therefore we are opening up the spaces on our online class platform to the children who attend the Tuition Club; if they cannot attend on site. Please let us know and we will arrange this for you.

Precautions Taken On Site

The health and wellbeing of our community, children and staff is the number one priority. As the
COVID-19 situation develops we wanted to share the proactive enhanced steps that we have taken
to ensure that our students and staff members are safe. These enhanced safety measures have already begun and include:

  • Regularly disinfecting high touch areas including handrails, door handles, surfaces and
    electronic devices.
  • Installing anti-bacterial hand soap at every sink
  • Removing the use of hand dryers and encouraging the wiping of wet hands on paper towels.
  • Increasing weekly caretaking times and deep cleaning to the Masjid areas, classrooms and resources.
  • Ensuring all staff have the information they need to stay healthy and continuously keep a high level of hygiene. Anyone that is feeling unwell (whether COVID-19 or not) is to take extra measure and remain at home.
  • All trips and events will be postponed and under review.
  • We have covered and will be covering hygiene with all children across schools. This includes how they should wash their hands properly in accordance with NHS and WHO guidelines;as well as the required techniques for coughing, sneezing and catching any of this in a tissue then binning it.

The masjid has already announced as a whole to any member of the congregation that is feeling unwell (whether COVID-19 or not) to remain away from the congregation – in line with the advisory from the permanent committee of Scholars.

We hope this goes someway to helping everyone understand the environment and the precautions under taken already.

May Allah keep us all well and safe; and upon Him is our reliance and final return.

Making Pancakes- With a Side of Science!

Our home-schooled girls aged 13-14 have been ‘Raising- Standards’ in their science experiments! The group enjoyed a fun session at the Tuiton club making Pancakes. Ever wondered what does science have to do with pancakes?.. well,  when you make pancake batter you are mixing a whole range of different chemicals – so all sorts of reactions take place in the cooking! The dry ingredients contain flour and sugar, as well as salt and maybe either baking powder or baking soda. Flour supplies protein, molecules made of lots of amino-acids joined in chains, along with starch, which similarly is made of lots of simple sugar molecules joined in chains.

We have been Working at Greater Depth!

Our home- schooled children ages 6-7 have been working at greater depth in their reading and writing!.Working at greater depth means a child is not only on their way to master the expected stage for their age, but able to delve into it in more detail. In English, working at greater depth might look like using different sentence types and lengths, being aware of how their audience affects their tone and style, or writing with a ‘reader’s eye’, re-reading and editing their own work to ensure it’s enjoyable to read.

Tuition Club’s Young Gardeners Discover Their Organic Produce!

As you may remember, last year our little green-fingered students were learning all about planting in our Learning Garden at the Tuition club. As spring approches us, our children are excited to have discovered their little seeds grow into beautiful organic produce!. Children can learn new skills, have fun, play and develop self-confidence by spending time in the garden tending plants and growing their own food. Most children enjoy being outdoors and love digging in the soil, getting dirty, creating things and watching plants grow. People of all ages can enjoy gardening, but our children in particular have had lots of fun and gaining special benefits. Gardening is educational and develops new skills including:

  • Responsibility – from caring for plants
  • Understanding – as they learn about cause and effect (for example, plants die without water, weeds compete with plants)
  • Self-confidence – from achieving their goals and enjoying the food they have grown
  • Love of nature – a chance to learn about the outdoor environment in a safe and pleasant place
  • Reasoning and discovery – learning about the science of plants, animals, weather, the environment, nutrition and simple construction
  • Physical activity – doing something fun and productive
  • Cooperation – including shared play activity and teamwork
  • Creativity – finding new and exciting ways to grow food
  • Nutrition – learning about where fresh food comes from

We look forward to sharing what our children find under the soil and what they will be cooking with their fresh produce… watch this space!

Writing a Descriptive Account During English Class

Descriptive writing imprints images into the reader’s mind, making you feel as though you’re “right there.” Its all about engaging the five senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch to transport the reader and stir emotion. By choosing vivid details and colorful words, good writers bring objects, people, places, and events to life. Instead of merely telling you what they see, they use their words to show you.

DIY Dinosaur fossils with Sour Dough!

Our home schooled children in year 3 and 4 have been learning all about fossilization during their science lesson. The children have learnt that fossils are the preserved remains or traces of living things from the past. There are many ways to form fossils. The experiment conducted by the children modelled the casting and moulding method. The dent made by the object, in this case were mini- dinosaur figurines in the clay is the mould. It shows the detail of the object’s surface. Groundwater leaks in to the moulds and then evaporates, leaving minerals behind. The minerals dry up and harden and this creates a cast. The children went on to pour pva glue into the moulds and baked in the oven to harden up to reveal their very own fossils!

Abstract and Still Life Painting Using Acrylic Paints in Art!

Our Home-schooled children have been getting creative at the Tuition club! Our children,  Ages 7- 11 have been taught how to use different mediums to the best effect. Sketching and working with different mediums they have been guided and taught by our wonderful and encouraging tutors.
The session started off with looking at The ColourWheel; Color wheels show us how colors are related.  They remind artists how to mix and think about colors. Primary colors cannot be made from other colors, Artists create all the other colors of the rainbow by mixing together the primary colors. Secondary colors are made by mixing two primary colors.  Each secondary color is made from the two primary colors closest to it on the color wheel. Children then went on to mix their own colours and recreated a piece of still life art work that inspired them. For those who have some art skills under their belts built on what they already know and are encouraged to move forward to the next steps in their creative journey.
