Famous Paintings by Van Gogh!

Our home-schooled children have been learning all about the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch artist. He painted portraits and landscapes and used watercolours and oil paints.

He is famous for using bright colours and bold brushstrokes in his work.

He painted in a style called Post-Impressionism.

The children have been focusing on two of his famous paintings, Sunflowers (1888) and Starry Night (1889) and producing some excellent sketching artwork using a variety of directional lines.

Garden Club Continues Tomorrow for Session 7 – Planting Herbs Outdoors @ 1.30pm!

Garden Club continues tomorrow at 1.30pm! Our attending home-schooled children are looking forward to seeing the development of their herb seeds and will have the opportunity to plant the herbs in our outdoor tyres. Session 6 – Planting Seedlings & Fun Activities @ Garden Club

Garden Club attendees had a great time yesterday planting Tomato and Carrot seedlings in our learning garden. The children were very excited to see the development of the seedlings from the seeds that they planted before the Ramadhaan break. Attendees also took part in a plant growth sequencing activity and made colourful paper flowers that open when placed in water, which shows how the unique properties of water help flowers bloom in the spring.

Factors that contribute to rusting in metals or leading them to corrode!

The aim of the experiment was to determine what are the factors that contribute to rusting in metals or leading them to corrode.

Rust is the crumbly, brown material which is caused by the chemical reaction or rather an oxidation process of iron and steel. Iron and steel rust in the presence of oxygen and water.

When a metal object such as nail, rusts the molecules of iron on the surface of the nail exchange atoms with the oxygen in the air and produce a new substance, the reddish-brown ferrous oxide (rust)

A simple science experiment tests the effects of different liquids on the rusting process, such as water, saline, oil, vinegar as well as others.

Session 5 – Planting Seeds & Seedlings Outdoors @ Garden Club

Garden Club attendees had a great time on Tuesday planting onion and potato seeds and cucumber seedlings in our learning garden. The children were very excited to see the development of the seedlings from the seeds that they planted the previous week. All attendees had a great time gardening and are looking forward to attending the next session after the Ramadhaan break.

Grid Drawing Method in Art!

Children have been developing observational skills by creating tonal grid drawing during Art lessons.

The grid method involves drawing a grid over your reference picture/photo, and then drawing a grid of equal ratio on your work surface/paper.

Drawing complex objects purely by eye, without any visual aid like construction lines, or a physical aid like a proportional divider can be difficult.

However, using the grid method can help with drawing objects or pictures which require accuracy.

Writing letters about Ramadhan in Arabic!

Our home-schooled children have been learning how to write letters in Arabic.

Some of the children wrote about Ramadhan, the act of Fasting and what their day would be like during Ramadhan.

Others wrote about a recent trip they went on with their family.
