Amazing Bake-Off Entries by Our Home-Schooled Students and Tutors!
Alhamdulillaah last Thursday was the end of another half term at the Tuition Club, and it ended in a joyful afternoon with the return of the Bake Off!
We were extremely impressed by all the entries this year as the tables were heaving with delicious savoury and sweet treats related to a subject studied at the Tuition Club.
The outcome showed remarkable creativity by both our home-schooled students and tutors.
In order to reward our home schooled students for their hard work and efforts this half term, we are happy to announce that the Bake Off will be returning for a fourth year in shaa Allaah. Both students and tutors have the opportunity to enter the baking competition. The event has been a great success previously Alhamdulillaah and we hope that our students, tutors and parents enjoy it just as much.
The Bake Off will be taking place on Thursday 14th February in shaa Allaah, and parents can join us from 2.30pm. Please see below for the rules of the competition.
Competition Rules
Students can either make savoury or sweet treats related to a subject they study at the Tuition Club.
Students must participate in the making of the dessert.
The dessert must be handed to the management team by 10am on Thursday 14th February, and will then be judged throughout the day.
Most importantly have fun!
Desserts will be judged on taste and creativity. The winners and runners up will be announced at 2.30pm, in which prizes will be handed out and students, parents and tutors will be able to enjoy the desserts on offer. We look forward to hosting the Tuition Club Bake Off, and hope that all students, teachers and parents enjoy this exciting end of half term event.
Reminder: The last day of this half term will be next Thursday 14th February 2019 in shaa Allaah. The Tuition Club will then resume on Monday 25th February 2019 at 10am.
Last week in our study skills workshop we learnt about how the brain works. Identifying whether a student is a left- or right-brain thinker can help them work to their strengths. Understanding how memories are formed can also assist the learning process. Join us for our next session tomorrow where we will be learning how to study effectively!

In Geography, some of our home-schooled children have been exploring a Land and Water Map of Arizona.
They have discussed that Arizona has deserts and these deserts are hot and dry. They are also sandy and rocky. Arizona has a large canyon which is a deep valley that has steep sides.
To help them understand the concept further, tutors have included a food tasting activity which included tasting different types of food eaten in Arizona such as the Pitaya/Pitahaya (the fruit of several different cactus species) and the Dragon Fruit.
Last week in our study skills workshop we covered tips on helping a child to study. To successfully assist a student, the helper should adopt a positive attitude, encourage learning together, provide feedback and use a range of teaching methods such as: learning apps, e-learning and online libraries. Our children made posters and explored a range of learning apps that can assist them in their learning. Join us for our next session tomorrow where we will be exploring how the brain works!
